Brussels Tomato Festival at La Ferme Nos Pilifs

Every year, La Ferme Nos Pilifs organizes its Tomato Festival, a weekend to let you discover the tomato in all its forms, with of course a lot of animations for the kids.

La Ferme Nos Pilifs is a sheltered workingplace who gives access to employment for 140 people with intellectual disabilities.

Located in the North of Brussels, in Neder-Over-Hembeek, this project combines an educational farm – which welcomes children on Wednesdays afternoon or during holidays activities; a garden centre where you can buy flowering plants, fruit trees and shrubs; a bio grocery and bakery and an estaminet where you can have a drink or grab a bite.

This weekend it hosts the Brussels Tomato Festival, which aims to let you discover the numerous varieties of this fruit.

You can get some advices from experts on how to grow it, collect the seeds,…

You know I am not much of a gardner, but I was pretty interested in a stand hold by Velt, a Flemish association on ecological living and gardening, which provided some pretty interesting brochures and advices on how to prepare a healthy lunchbox for the kids. With the approaching school start, this question is tormenting my too-much-concerned-mother-spirit…

Emma was more interested in the Kids Village… a bouncy castle (entrance charged…), wooden games, workshops, tales…

Of course you can grab a bite : sausage sandwich with home made ketchup, delicious gazpacho, pasta with -wait for it- tomato sauce… and a tasty bio beer.
